Open vs Closed
When shopping for your new car hauler, the first thing you’ll need to decide is whether you want an open or closed model. While both have their benefits, fans of closed car haulers often appreciate the added security a closed model brings. On the other hand, open trailers are often more spacious, allowing you to fit more vehicles in at a time, or even other types of bulky cargo.
Tow Vehicle
Before you decide between an open or closed car hauler, you’ll need to take a moment to consider the weight of your trailer. Because they have the added mass of four walls and a ceiling, enclosed car haulers are often much heavier than open ones. If you don't have a heavy-duty towing vehicle, a heavy trailer may prove to be a problem. The same can be said if you’re looking to purchase an extremely large trailer, or plan to carry multiple vehicles. Before you select a model, be sure to check your vehicle’s towing limitations and the weight of your car hauler.
Materials
While there are a few different materials out there durable enough to be used for car haulers, the most common are aluminum and steel. If you have a lighter tow vehicle, are looking to carry smaller cargo, and want a trailer that’s easy to clean, aluminum is the perfect choice! However, when compared to steel car haulers, these trailers don’t tend to last as long and are easier to damage. While steel car haulers are equipped to handle heavy cargo and tend to last longer, their frames are very prone to rusting and will require a little extra care and attention from you.
