If you own a trailer, we bet you’re impressed by its performance and versatility. No matter the kind of cargo that needs to be moved, a trailer can be a boon for the person who uses it daily as well as the person who uses it once in a while. Apart from its obvious usefulness, there’s more a trailer can do for you. If you add aftermarket parts and upgrades to your trailer, it will become that much more versatile.

Some trailer accessories are more essential than others but to figure out what you need, you have to think about what it is you’re hauling and decide which of the following items would help you the most. For all your trailer needs, come to Lone Star Trailers in Lacy-Lakeview, Texas. We’re proud to serve our friends from Waco and Temple.

Spare Tire

Most vehicles come with a spare tire, but not so with a trailer. A few models may supply this once you purchase it, but if yours didn’t come with one, then you should look into getting one. It’s easier to replace a tire than drive away, get one and come back or, worse yet, get the trailer towed.

Lights

Most trailers on the market come with some basic lights like braking lights. If your trailer is missing any key lights, you’ll need to have them installed. It’ll make the road a safer place for both you and other commuters when they can see the entirety of your vehicle on the road. For brighter and more long-lasting results, use LED lights.

Document Tubes

Traveling around in your trailer means you may need to keep some documents on hand with you. This can include the registration, business documents, and even maintenance records and charts. Since these are important papers that you don't want to lose, it's best for you to use a document tube. This can also make it easy to access important papers, since they’ll all be in one place.

D-rings/Tie-downs

Even if you’re able to secure your cargo using the old-fashioned squeeze-it-in method, the best way to ensure everything stays in place is to tie it down. If your trailer does not already have D-rings or tie-down mechanisms, we highly recommend installing them. We also recommend getting some sturdy ratchet straps to take full advantage of these rings.

Ladder Racks

If you own an enclosed trailer, there are some unique upgrades you can add to your model, including ladder racks. While most ladders are cumbersome and often difficult to fit inside the trailer, adding a rack to the outside of the trailer can clear up room inside of it for other cargo and supplies.

Fuel Fill Doors

If you use your enclosed trailer to transport powersport vehicles, there’s a way you can still access the machines’ fuel tanks and fill up on gas by installing fuel fill doors. All you’ll have to do is open the door and refuel through the wall of the trailer.

Shelving Units

When there isn’t a proper place for your tools, most people tend to just throw them inside a trailer. This is a great way to lose tools completely or spend hours hunting around for them. Installing shelving units might be a somewhat extensive project, but it can give you a way to organize your tools and cargo to give you easy access to everything you need. It’ll also help you free up space on the trailer floor for other items.
