Your trailer relies on its deck to carry cargo and its wheels to get it around, but there’s an often-overlooked component that it relies on for both: the axle, or axles. We here at Lone Star Trailers want to help you take care of your trailer so it can take care of you, so we’ve put together a few tips on trailer axle maintenance, below. To learn more, or to see the trailers we have for sale, contact our store in Lacy Lakeview, Texas, today!

Keep It Clean

The axle is largely exposed to the elements and the road, which means it gets dirty pretty fast. While it’s hardly the most stylish part of the trailer, dirt, debris, and moisture buildup can lead to serious maintenance issues. Luckily, all the mud, tree branches, gravel, and other crud that your axle gets pasted with are no match for a thorough rinse every so often.

Keep It Lubricated

Of course, moisture buildup is another side-effect of road travel, and that and other factors can dilute and break down the lubricant your axle needs to avoid grinding and overheating. Make sure to re-grease the hub every 3,000 miles or once a year, whichever comes first. Check the grease every so often to see the color—brown or gray grease indicates that it’s breaking down or dirty.

We hope these tips help your trailer axle stay in good shape! For more information or maintenance help, or to see the trailers we have available, contact us at Lone Star Trailers. We proudly serve the people of Waco and Temple, Texas—let us serve you today!
